Networks
- Net.Work.Virginia - is an advanced, broadband network delivering ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) service
statewide. It is the result of a project led by Virginia Tech in association with Old Dominion University and the Virginia Community College System to develop universal access to advanced digital communications services for all of Virginia.
- Center for Wireless Telecommunications conducts research on radio frequency (RF) systems and components, antennas, satellite communication, wireless networks, and business and regulatory issues affecting wireless telecommunications.
- LMDS Research Consortium is bringing together licensees, equipment suppliers, and other interested organizations to support research and development of the 1150 megahertz wireless spectrum. The Virginia Tech Foundation recently won licenses in this spectrum that covers almost one third the area of Virginia including Roanoke, Bristol, Martinsville, and Danville areas.
- Mobil & Portable Radio Group focuses on developing propagation modeling and system design tools for future wireless communication links, as well as modem and DSP design and implementation.
- Fiber and Electro-Optics
Research Center (FEORC) studies the use of fiber optic technology for the transmission of voice, television, and computer data signals.
