Guided Search At times, it may be difficult to construct a search when faced with a blank Text Entry Area. To assist you in finding appropriate search terms, Guided Search provides previously prepared lists of search options. If Guided Search is not your current Search Mode and you are working with a database that allows for switching among alternative Search Modes, click on the Search Pulldown Menu option, move your mouse pointer to the Guided Search Mode, and click. Next click on the file name (you may change your directory to any directory or drive to which your system has access) or to an item in a Subject Description List (if the latter was created by the data base administrator or CD-ROM publisher) that describes or will initiate the desired Guided Search mode. After Selecting the desired item, Select with your mouse the View File Button if you are Selecting a file name, or double Click on the item is you are choosing a Subject Description List item. You will now see a display of subject matter or other headings (vendor name, city name, product type, etc). This list can be scrolled by selecting initially the Down, and subsequently, the Down or Up Arrows found at the top and bottom of the Scroll Bar, which is located to the far right of the Guided View window. To scroll the list, click on an Up or Down Arrow. To select an item from a list, Click TWICE on the item. You will then see a list of items associated with the selected Subject Matter Heading (as long as the List Window is on, i.e., viewable). You may also move up or down through the list screens of titles by clicking below or above the Thumbwheel. If the List Window is turned off, you may turn it on by moving your mouse pointer to the List Icon (third from the left) on the Lights Toolbox Menu and clicking, or by moving your mouse pointer to the Show Pulldown Menu and clicking on the List option. After reviewing the list of items associated with a Subject Matter Heading, you may wish to see descriptive information on a specific item. Move your mouse pointer to the desired item and Click TWICE. The WINDOWS PERSONAL LIBRARIAN screen will then display some or all (depending on setup) of the record corresponding to the item description. Once you have reviewed the descriptive information about the item, you may also wish to view Hypertext information related to that item (if available). To a Hypertext Link, Click on the Links Pulldown Menu and then click on the desired option. The screen will then either display a list of suboptions or it will display the Hypertext connected Item. (See Links Pulldown Menu in this Help system) When you have finished reviewing the information for a specific item you may return to the Guided Search choosing process by moving your mouse pointer to the Document Icon on the far left of the Lights Toolbox Menu and clicking. This will bring the Subject and List Windows back onscreen (the factory set default and normally the windows chosen by a user or data base administrator under Save Settings) so that you may continue with the selection and review process.
