WRITE WRITE is used to write a screen or document to a file. When used with the EDIT command it provides a convenient cut-and-paste facility. WRITE is a toggle. Its effect is the same as SET WRITE:on or SET WRITE:off, except that when it comes on, it writes the document currently on the screen to DOCOUT. When screen writing is set on the word "ON" appears at the right of the command line at the top of the screen. You can set fields on/off for display by using SET DISPLAY. WRITE if currently ON, sets screen write OFF if currently OFF, sets screen write ON and writes the current screen to the file DOCOUT WRITE n write the document with DOCUMENT number n (NOT RANKING number n) to DOCOUT WRITE n-m writes documents with DOCUMENT numbers n through m to DOCOUT
