Appendix One: CRISTAL Macro Programming

CRISTAL's ability to integrate image processing and worksheet
environments makes it a versatile, hence, appropriate tool for
building information management systems.  The prototype
applications were selected to demonstrate the diverse range of
information organization tasks that can be addressed using the
CRISTAL System.

The description of the prototype applications is divided into two
sections.  The first section provides a description of both
applications and the major CRISTAL components that were
implemented in the development process.  The second section
describes the process of using the CRISTAL macro authoring
language to create the application program.  This section includes
a description of the assembly of the image and worksheet database
structure.
