Archaic CRM Methods: The major deficiency in this process is the fact that, on the whole, current methods and techniques of the CRM process are archaic, costly, and cumbersome. The very failure to effectively assimilate contemporary technological tools into the preservation process is in itself a significant threat to the integrity and continuity of a valuable cultural heritage. Rather than acquiesce to the eventuality of facing guns with spears, preservationists must acquire the necessary skills that can ensure thoughtful adoption of emerging technological tools to the tasks of the preservation process. Only then will the resounding cry, "To arms! To arms!," have preservationists reaching into an appropriate technological arsenal. By conscientiously projecting preservation needs, and the promise of technological developments to resolve those needs, the preservation community can prepare itself to recognize and capitalize on those opportunities that will facilitate active resource management efforts.
