Technology Transfer: The processes of preservation have largely failed to capitalize on the opportunities inherent in the application of emerging technologies to the cultural resource management effort. The Congressional Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) in its report, "Technologies for Prehistoric and Historic Preservation" (U.S. Congress, 1986), asserted that the development of technologically advanced, cost effective conservation tools and methods is essential to the preservation of our cultural heritage. Accordingly, new strategies are required to form a basis for identifying and selecting these sophisticated tools and techniques from the ranks of a broad spectrum of emerging technologies. A concerted effort to broaden the professional base of CRM through interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration can result in successful implementation of this technology transfer concept.
